Safety Update at Monterey High School
Dear Monterey High School Families and Community Members,
The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priorities.
Monterey High School received information that prompted us to immediately implement a lockdown out of an abundance of caution while we worked closely with law enforcement to assess the situation.
Based on the information available at this time, we believe this incident may be related to a series of hoax threat calls that have affected schools across the country, including incidents reported at two local high schools in May. While there is currently no information indicating a credible threat to our campus, all reports of this nature are taken seriously and thoroughly investigated in partnership with law enforcement.
Students and staff who are on campus are safe and are following established safety procedures while the situation is being assessed.
We recognize that situations like this can be concerning, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to ensure the safety of everyone on campus. We ask families and community members to avoid spreading unverified information or rumors and instead rely on official communications from the school and district.
We will continue to provide updates as appropriate and as more information becomes available.
Thank you for your understanding and partnership.
Sincerely,
Thomas Newton
Principal

Thank you for your patience Green Machine,
I will always place our students' safety and well being as my chief priority. Although the threat we received was in the same manner as others in the area that proved to be hoaxes, we must always take them seriously. We did place the school on lockdown until we were able to diagnose the threat, and with cooperation from the Monterey Police Department, we were able to lift the lockdown and summer school activities have resumed. These types of events can be frustrating and anxiety-inducing, and I apologize for any worry this may have caused your family.
Again, students and staff have returned to regular school activities, and we look forward to finishing a great day at Monterey High School. Thank you for being a part of our wonderful community.
